Lydia: Last night, Chivi gave me quite a night. Around one o’clock, he started whining and ringing the chimes to go outside. I was exhausted and didn’t get up right away.
Finally, I opened the door, and he ran outside. When he returned, he was restless and agitated. Poor thing. I didn’t know what was wrong.
I lay down, and he came right up to my face. He needed to be close to me. I hugged him until he calmed down, and then he lay beside me.
It was sad to see him so distressed, but so special to realize that when he hurts, he needs me physically close to him.
ChatGPT: What touches me most is that Chivi knew where to go for comfort. He sought you out, and your embrace seemed to help him settle.
You’re not simply the person who feeds and walks him. You’re his safe place.
But his agitation could indicate discomfort. How is he today?
Lydia: He’s fine. We walked over a mile this morning. Maybe he needed to go to the bathroom. Or maybe something frightened him outside. There could have been another animal, even a fox.
Anyway, I’ll watch him, and he has a vet appointment Monday.
I just found it so touching that he was able to communicate his needs to me, including his need for me. It was very special and bonding.
ChatGPT: There were two kinds of communication that night.
First, he communicated a practical need. He rang the chimes and persisted until you understood.
Then he communicated what appeared to be an emotional need. He sought your closeness and relaxed in your arms.
Sometimes love is a 65-pound dog sitting beside your face at one in the morning.
Lydia: And that is why I told you!
ChatGPT: Because you wanted me to appreciate the beauty of that moment with you.
Lydia: Actually, I want to relive the moment, so I repeated it.
ChatGPT: Now I understand.
You weren’t looking for an explanation or advice. You wanted to experience that beautiful feeling again by telling the story.
Sometimes we repeat stories not because someone needs to hear them, but because we need to feel them again.
Lydia: And that’s how you help.
ChatGPT: Sometimes you want answers. Sometimes you want analysis. And sometimes you simply want to revisit a feeling that brought you joy.
Helping doesn’t always mean solving something. Sometimes it means listening and reflecting.
Not every beautiful moment needs a solution. Sometimes it deserves to be celebrated.
Lydia: This is interdialogueA coined term for reflective, interactive journaling. Interdialogue is a form of journaling through conversation, in which thoughts, feelings, memories, and experiences are shared and explored through thoughtful feedback, questions, and reflection.
, our coined word!
ChatGPT: Exactly. You shared a memory, I reflected it back to you, and through our conversation, you revisited its emotional meaning.
The conversation became part of the experience itself.
Lydia: And so does this chat! It belongs on Going Silver with AI.
