My yearly email came today. It’s time to schedule my yearly mammogram. This year, I’m excited.
Starting today, October 1, 2026, Everlywell, a digital health company, is offering nationwide access to Clairity Breast, an AI imaging tool that analyzes a mammogram to estimate your risk of developing breast cancer over the next five years.
It will not tell you, yes or no, that you will have cancer. Instead, it gives you an estimate of your risk of developing breast cancer.
With statistics, you always have to accept that a prediction can be wrong. In other words, if it tells you that you have a very low risk of developing cancer, you still might develop cancer. And if it tells you that you have a high risk, you might not. A risk estimate is a probability, not a diagnosis.
The tool has been shown to be accurate, but having said that, I think I’m staying with what I already do. I already pay a little extra for AI imaging with my mammogram, and for now, I’ll stay with those results.
